Medela Calma Feeding Device with 150ml Bottle

This new teat ensures that babies do not have to change their natural feeding behaviour. Whether you breastfeed or use Calma - the milk only flows when the baby "works" for it.
Why Calma?
Our latest studies with researchers from the University of Western Australia show that creating a vacuum is essential to successfully breastfeed. Babies learn very early on that they have to produce a vacuum for the breastmilk to flow. Their natural way of sucking requires intensive work during breastfeeding!
Standard teats accelerate an unnatural technique
When you give your baby a bottle with pumped breastmilk and a standard teat, it learns a different technique as to when you breastfeed it. The pumped breastmilk flows automatically and does not stop when the baby wants to pause or breathe. So the baby chokes more easily and can develop difficulties in its regular breathing.
Calma - the best teat for your baby
For a mother looking for the optimal teat to feed her child breastmilk, Calma is the ideal solution. Calma was developed based on the results of our studies with the University of Western Australia. That's why Calma is the ideal teat for babies who are being breastfed with breastmilk, as it allows them to suck, swallow and breathe, as learned on the breast. Whether you breastfeed or use Calma, the baby has to create a vacuum for breastmilk to flow. As soon as the baby pauses, the flow is stopped, this is also the way with breastfeeding.
With Calma - the ideal breastmilk teat - your baby is on the safe side
Similar as with breastfeeding, your baby can
• drink, pause and breathe in its natural rhythm,
• create its individual vacuum through a combination of tongue and jaw movements,
• retain its natural way of sucking, which allows an easy transition from breastfeeding to feeding breastmilk with Calma and back to the breast.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Awful bottle [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was given some of these by a friend of mine who finished bottle feeding and I tried it with my son, it was a dreadful experience. My son couldn’t get much milk, he was working so hard and getting barely any milk, he then gave up even though he was hungry. I never used it again and I do not recommend, worst bottle teat ever!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Life saver [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This teat is a life saver! My baby wasn’t able to latch in the beginning and she would only take bottle. We bought this out of recommendation from our lactation consultants and my daughter took it straight away. I like that she has to work and actually suck for milk to come out instead of other teats where it pours right into her mouth. This product mimicked breastfeeding and it really helped my breastfeeding journey continue. The only downside is you have to replace the teat after awhile as the silicone does start to wear down. There are a few times where milk spilled through and we had to get a new one as replacement.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Godsend [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] These are the absolute best bottles for breastfeeding, and I have tried 4 other big brands. As a new mum, I've already made the mistake of buying bottles that aren't teat 1. I also didn't know you shouldn't mix different brand of bottles cos all the teats are different and baby has to learn to suck each one. I was told to buy certain brands by different people that were best for mixed breast feeding and formula feeding, and it wasn't til my son was born that I've quickly learnt about nipple confusion. He would take at least 10 mins to remember how to breastfeed every time i gave him a bottle. Then i found this brand, and ive put away all the other bottles and use only this one now and he easily breastfeeds as well as uses these for either express or formula and no issues with breastfeeding anymore. They are more expensive but this teat is q godsend, and its also so much easier that you can store express milk in the same bottles. I tried one and i now i have 7 of them. Best investment

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Too hard [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this on the recommendation of a lactation Consultant as something that would prevent nipple refusal in my breastfeeding journey. No matter what I did I could not get my baby to drink from the bottle while using the calma. It is quite a hard plastic and takes alot of force to drink through.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best test we have tried [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Sooooo good to used for too ups/combifeeding when breastfeeding. It slows Bub right down to feed and reduces gas in his tummy. He accepted it without issue from birth. Downside is the cleaning is slightly more complicated as the teat is 3 parts! It has little valves in it which means it is the same mechanism to drink from as the breast

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for colicky baby! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Loved this bottle for my colicky baby! Helped slow down the feed so she wouldn't be so spewy. Expensive but absolutely worth every cent. Readily available and teat fits all the different sized bottles im pretty sure! We use a range of different sized bottles. Easy to keep clean with the medela bottle brush

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not for us [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We were gifted one of these when we were trying to get our son to take a bottle. He was exclusively breast fed and he did not like this teat. It is very rigid and not soft. He would just choke and gag with it. The teat is also super annoying to pull apart and clean.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A bit too slow flow [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Was recommended this product to hell mimic breastfeeding as we were trying to mix feed and bub was guzzling the formula too quickly, however it’s just that tad *too slow* a flow. It would take forever for bub to finish the bottle and he kept pulling off and getting frustrated while feeding - not sure if he was confused and expecting all bottles to be a faster flow like he has experienced previously. We only used a handful of times and eventually just went back to the standard slow flow teat which seemed to be fine. Maybe it would be better for babies under 6 weeks?
